ABSTRACT
Indonesia has committed through NDC to actively contribute to the achievement of global target for avoiding the increase of global temperature exceeding 1.5oC.   The effectiveness of controlling climate change is highly dependent on policies and their implementation at all levels (international, national, and sub-nationals) and stakeholders.  The participation on parties and non-parties actors (local government, privates, and communities) are crucial to the achievement of this target.

Government of Indonesia since 2012 has implemented a climate village program (PROKLIM) with goal of enhancing the Indonesian society’s understanding of climate
change and its impacts, and encourage real action to strengthen community resilience and promote
a low carbon emission lifestyle.  It aims at disseminating and exchanging information and best
practices on climate change adaptation and mitigation action, improving local adaptive capacities
and the involvement of society and other stakeholders.

The programme qualifies as a good practice as it enjoys strong governmental backing for its implementation and continuation and involves diverse stakeholders such as the private sector and development
organisations.  Furthermore, while implementing climate actions at the community level, strong
emphasis is laid on integrating local knowledge and practices into adaptation and mitigation measures.

In the opening of Climate Adaptation Summit 2021, President of Republic of Indonesia has stated that Indonesia engages the community to manage climate change through the PROKLIM which covers 20,000 villages by 2024.  At present there are more than 3,000 PROKLIM has been registered from different provinces and a lot of knowledge and good practices implemented by community.  Some of climate model villages are implemented using ecosystem-based adaptation and agroecological practices which have been proved to be effective in adapting to changing climate conditions and combatting biodiversity loss in both the highland ecosystem and coastal ecosystem.

This session aims to share lesson learnt from the implementation of the PROKLIM from government, and communities, and perspective from International and process of measuring impact of the community climate actions in reducing the emission and increasing climate resilience.
